The sunniest and friendliest town located near the southern border of Bulgaria.
The town, situated at an altitude of 220-240 m, is the warmest Bulgarian town in all seasons, with sunshine lasting over 2 450 hours, creating conditions for year-round sunny-air treatments.
The air here is exceptionally clean, with low relative humidity (66%), with an average annual temperature of +14.10C, with negligible diurnal and seasonal temperature amplitudes. Winters are mild and warm, snow and fog are almost unknown.
The combination of favorable natural features, together with the wealth of mineral springs with different thermalities (in the area of the municipality of Sandanski there are over 80 springs with a temperature of 42-81 ° C), low mineralization, rich chemical composition, curing many diseases and giving the opportunity to bathe outdoors throughout the year, make the place convenient for human settlement in these places since ancient times, turning the settlement into one of the oldest settlement centers in the Balkans since the time of the Trojan War.
Upon entering the town along the road, the visitor sees the architectural-sculptural complex (monument), among which rises a 7-meter white stone figure of the ancient hero Spartacus.
In the centre of the town is the Archaeological Museum with the remains of the Bishop's Basilica, preserving material evidence for more than 27 centuries.
Of particular note is the 1861 St. George Church, the only surviving building from the Renaissance.
