General information:

Varna is the largest city on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast and is the main port for both naval and commercial shipping. Because it is a close neighbor to the popular coastal resorts of Golden Sands, St. Constantine & Helena, and Albena, Varna has a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Varna is also the host city of numerous prestigious cultural events.

The city lies in the Bay of Varna, nestled in a deep valley between the Frengen Plateau and the Avren Plateau. Varna is over 11 km long, while its width, including newly erected residential quarters, is nearly 9km. The city’s structure resembles an amphitheatre as it follows the curves of the Bay of Varna. It is surrounded by gardens, vineyards and groves.

Varna lies on the same latitude of the famous Atlantic resorts Bayonne and Biarritz in France, on a large, flat and high terrace on the northwestern most curve of the bay which juts some 7 km island.

The name "Golden Sands" comes from an old legend: pirates unearthed a huge treasure of gold on the seashore north of Varna. The land took revenge on the bandits and turned the gold into beautiful sand.

Golden Sands is famous for its beautiful golden sand and long beaches. The beaches of the Black Sea are covered with crystalline sands. Due to its natural beauty, the Bulgarian Black Sea coast has become a famous international resort area.

Golden Sands resort is located 18 kilometres north of Varna and close to the Golden Sands National Park. It is a magnificent resort, the largest resort on the northern Black Sea coast, with richly forested hills, golden white beach and clear blue sea. There are plenty of famous and ancient mineral springs, which have a flow rate of 150 m/sec and were already known to the Thracians and Roman Caesars. The resort's beach strip is 3.5 km long. and up to 100 m wide. The average air temperature in summer is 27-30 degrees and the water temperature is 25-28 degrees. Golden Sands suits both sun lovers and visitors, being close to Varna - the third largest city in Bulgaria, the pearl of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast with a large number of places of interest. The resort has wonderful conditions for recreation, entertainment, sports and spa treatment. It is a paradise for children and a relaxing holiday for parents. It has been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag environmental award several times.
